Meet Huseman Consulting Engineers!
Tell us about yourself and your business.
I am a dually qualified mechanical and electrical engineer (1 of 50 in TX) that grew up in rural West Texas. Besides that, I’m your classic nerd that wants to go into too much detail way too fast. I started Huseman Consulting Engineers a few years ago and do the design portion on getting things to turn on or flush (lights, power, HVAC, toilets, etc.).
What made you become an entrepreneur?
I saw some engineered blueprints on a table, asked how much the engineer charged to draw them, dropped my jaw when I heard the number – thought, I could do this – and now, that’s what I do. Number’s not as high as I felt it was back in the day, but it’s way better than working offshore 100 hrs a week.
Was there a specific aha moment that catapulted your career into entrepreneurship?
The day I talked to a successful mentor/entrepreneur about the tax benefits.. Your business gets quite the discount.
What do you find special about the entrepreneur community in Amarillo?
It’s amazing how people are laid back and punctual here. Back in my big city days, I’d have to wait 2 weeks to setup meetings through secretaries for one window, and once the day came, the person either showed up late or cancelled. Half the time I call an entrepreneur around here, it’s “come on by this afternoon.”
What’s a celebration you want to share with the community about your business that has happened in 2020?
We’ve learned how to 3D scan buildings and are hoping to start producing 3D plans for renovations.
When did you realize you were an entrepreneur?
First time I signed a contract when I only knew how to do 70% of it.. Remember being nauseous for a few weeks until external references, late night googling, and the good old grind put the worries to bed.
