WT Enterprise Center intern selected to cover national digital media conference.

Amarillo, Texas – June 6, 2012

Krystina Martinez, Marketing & Communications Intern for the WT Enterprise Center, was selected as one of 20 students nationwide to participate in the Online News Association 2012 Student Newsroom.

The student newsroom is sponsored by Google and its purpose will be to cover the events of the ONA 2012 Conference. Digital media journalists and entrepreneurs from around the country will gather in the San Francisco Hyatt Regency on Sept. 20-22 to learn about new tools and discuss advancements and challenges in the industry.

The Student Newsroom will be mentored by working journalists and professors as they cover the conference using a range of digital formats such as live blogging, audio, video, slideshows, and more. Applicants were required to submit a resume and a brief essay. Martinez beat out 400 student applicants from around the world to win one of the 20 coveted positions.

“I heard about the Online News Association through one of my professors,” Martinez said. “When I saw a tweet about the Student Newsroom, I decided to apply because it seemed like a new and fun experience. I honestly didn’t expect to get it.”

Martinez is a senior broadcast journalism major at West Texas A&M University. She is the current editor-in-chief of The Prairie, WT’s campus newspaper.

“The ONA Conference is going to be a great learning experience and an awesome networking opportunity,” she said. “There are so many things that you can do with journalism that people don’t realize. I hope that after the conference, I will have a clearer idea of not only what I will be doing after graduation, but also use the things that I’ve learned to apply to The Prairie.”
